Texas Parole Review and Parole Revocation Lawyer

Parole

In Texas, a prison inmate who is being reviewed for release on parole does not have the opportunity to make a personal presentation before the people who will make that decision. Typically, the inmate will appear as another paper file before the representatives of the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles who will decide whether or not to grant release on parole. Where appropriate, an attorney can help present that inmate as a unique individual to those decision-makers, and can often make a personal presentation on behalf of the inmate. I work with the inmate, family, friends and experts when needed, to help assure that the Board will have a more comprehensive, individualized picture of the inmate's situation and potential for success on parole than would otherwise occur.

Parole Revocation

A person on parole in Texas is subject to a varying range of conditions. A violation of those conditions usually leads to a parole revocation hearing. That hearing is not before a judge, and is conducted under rules and procedures that are different from those used in a court of law. The result of the hearing can be a return to prison, continuation on parole, or a variety of sanctions in between. Usually, the person facing a parole revocation hearing is arrested on what is known as a "blue warrant," and is not eligible for a bond. Someone facing a parole revocation hearing has fewer rights than someone charged with a criminal offense, and it is important to know and exercise all the rights available. I suggest you seek the help of a qualified attorney as soon as possible to aggressively defend those rights. I have the experience and knowledge to do that, and to represent you or a loved one involved in a parole revocation hearing.

Generally, parole probabilities in the state of Texas are only between 20-30%. At the Ritenour Law Firm, P.C., in San Antonio, I am able to do things to improve my clients' chances of success in the parole review process, which in Texas is a paper review.

  • I prepare a standout paper package that is tailor-made. The application is focused on the individual inmate and is aimed at the specific parole panel where it will be reviewed.
  • I ask to appear before the parole review panel with one or more of the inmate's family members present.
  • I individualize and personalize the presentation in every possible way to enhance the probability of parole.
  • I help my clients and their families write letters for the appeal package.
  • I write a summary explaining what makes the inmate a productive member of society and why they should be granted parole. I show how they have been rehabilitated, where they are going to live, how they are able to earn a living, and how they will have the support of their family and/or friends.

If you or your loved one was arrested on a blue warrant, contact an experienced parole revocation lawyer as soon as possible. You have rights, but if you do not take the necessary action, you may lose them.
